Cross Country

We had great weather for the cross country today, well done to everyone!  Thanks to all those parents who came to help out or to watch their critter in action.  Here are some shots...more will follow.

Thanks to Whaea Nicki and Mrs Keaney for organising the Cross Country.  They did a great job.

Friday is Wacky Hair Day, bring a gold coin donation for Child Cancer research and tease or colour your hair any way you like.

A wee correction to Week 9's post

My fault entirely...
The Matariki Liturgy is on Tuesday at 10am, not Monday.
My apologies.

Week 9

Greetings,
I hope you all had a fantastic weekend.  I enjoyed the rugby game on Saturday night.  Those All Blacks are magnificent.

Here is a picture I wanted to share, Buddy and Roman in front of the fire...
Thats Roman lying on my leg. They get on well.  Buddy will be visiting homes to have a look at how you recycle, he has taken it upon himself to become the recycling police.

The week ahead is looking far too busy for my liking:)
Monday
We have a Matariki Liturgy in the hall at 10am, all are welcome to attend.
PMP-bring your PE gear
Matariki Colouring Competitions for Junior and Middle children will go out today. They need to be back to the office by next Thursday afternoon.
Prize winners announced at Assembly next week. COOL PRIZES!!!

Tuesday
PMP-bring your PE gear

Wednesday
PMP-bring your PE gear
The Cultural dinner will be at 5.30pm on Wednesday, all families are most welcome.

Thursday
9.00am Junior Cross Country
Parents are most welcome to come and watch their children run in the school Junior Cross Country.  The event is run in age groups, the 5 year olds will be starting at 9.15am sharp. The race is over pretty quickly , so if you do want to come and cheer them on, I would suggest staying at school and helping out as they get ready to run.

A visit from Hunter Valley Grammar School (29 students + 4 teachers) from Australia who are in Rotorua, will be performing for us next Thursday at 1.30pm.
Their performance time is approx 30-40mins, parents are welcome to come and watch.

One more thing, I just have to share this picture of Rory.  He got player of the day last week at soccer and his dad took these amazing pictures.  You can clearly see Rory slicing his way like a premiership player.  Way to go Rory!

I will see you all tomorrow.

Friday

Welcome at Mass this Friday

At the end of Mass this Friday, all of the new entrants will be formally welcomed to our school.
Each child and their family will be called up the front of the church and will receive a pair of Rosary beads.
Parents and families of these students are particularly encouraged to join us at Mass.

We have been doing  a lot of science this week in class.
Today we learned about the water cycle and yesterday we observed some worms and wrote about them.  We are trying to use interesting words in our writing.
Tomorrow (Thursday) I will be in Wellington for the day.  I will be talking at a conference about the benefits of play for children.
If you have a chance to watch this Ted talk by Peter Gray.
He explains it all in about thirteen minutes.

See you at mass on Friday

What a great assembly Room 18

Assembly

Room 18's assembly is on Friday in the school hall at 1.55pm.
All are welcome to come and watch.
We will be performing a couple of items.

For Golden Time we are going to have a dress up party, children can bring their dress-ups and get changed into them after morning tea.
They must come to school in their uniforms because we have class photos!!

Tuesday 13 June 2017

Just a reminder...
School Photos - FRIDAY. Children need to be in their correct uniforms. You can wear your polar fleece to school but these are not allowed in the official photos. We will borrow jumpers if/when needed. The last day to order photos through the school is THURSDAY 12:30pm. After this date you will need to make arrangements directly with Photolife. Our class slot is just before morning tea.

and....

Matariki Macarena

This is one of the songs we are doing for assembly. We are all doing the girls part - the boys can do their pukana at the end. Please help your children to learn the correct pronunciation and the actions. They are doing incredibly well in class learning this together - I'm super impressed!

Practice Version - to help learn the actions

Assembly Version - so the school can join in with us

Your help would be most appreciated:)

Week 7

Well, I'm not sure we can top last week for fun and excitement.  But we will have a good crack at it.

School photos are this Friday.
The close off for ordering school photos is this Thursday.  If you don't return your slips to the office by then, then you will have to make your own arrangements with Photolife.
Our class photo will be just before morning tea-so we won't need to stay all clean and tidy for the whole day...phew:)

Room 18 is on Assembly this Friday.  We will be discussing what to do tomorrow in class, we hope to do a couple of items if everything goes to plan.  Your child might bring home a part to practice...please help us and them to make it happen. Parents/grandparents and friends are welcome to come along, watch, laugh, and enjoy our assembly.

It is great to see that the children are spending more time on Reading eggs.
It really does help children learn to read.
Mr Macmillan is currently running a "Lion's Promotion Competition". Every time children in our class complete two levels on Reading eggs, they will receive one entry into the draw to win prizes from the prize cabinet in the hall foyer.
The draw will be done at the end of the term, so keep up the great work.
Students need to complete 2 lessons a week to get 1 ticket.
We will have a jar in the class where they can put their tickets.

Here is the way the week ahead is looking...

Matariki madness

We were lucky enough to have some more visitors today.
The girls from Rotorua Intermediate came to teach us all about Matariki, they even taught us a song to sing.
Thanks girls, you were amazing.

You are welcome to come back anytime.
