Week 2

Howdy,
We made chocolate muffins for golden time on Friday, they were delicious! We are working recognising those famous fractions 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4-because you can't bake if you don't know those numbers!! More baking to come hopefully.
I have some photos that are stubborn refusing to load, so I will add them it later.

Nyum, nyum.  I didn't need to do a thing-clever critters.

What a gorgeous weekend. I decided to hit the golf course and lost about 20 balls. I am a work in progress:)-it's always fun learning something new, the poor golf course grass takes a battering-I think I end up digging more holes than actually hitting the ball.

The children are tired, just keep an eye on them. There are a lot of runny noses and hacking coughs still about. Make sure they are getting to bed early and have a healthy lunchbox to help get them through the day...and plenty of water.

Student Led Conferences are on Tuesday
The children are really looking forward to celebrating and setting new goals. Make sure you get yourself booked in, we will be taking photos for our walls. If you have any dramas making an appointment just let me know and we will figure something out.

A Reminder about Reading Logs
Reading Logs are due on Wednesday and the reading draw is this Friday. It is clear and obvious that Room 18has being doing a lot of reading-perhaps that is why we are all soooooooo exhausted:)

A Reminder about Raffle Books
Raffle books were sent out at the end of term 2 (one per family). These are also due on Wednesday, please.

I will see you all tomorrow.

Check us out

Some very cool things have been happening in Room 18 that deserve a mention.

This is Arieana, she read a book called The Christmas Tree and decided she was going to make her own decoration. Arieana, you are so creative.  Great job!!

Some very cool critters have been writing stories without any help from us...
From left to right I will share their stories.
Lucas wrote..."Once upon a time their was a bear who lived in a cave."
Henry wrote..."I like Mrs Holmes. I like her because she is beautiful." (This one is on my wall at home;))
Conner wrote..."Conner bear is a nice bear."
Andrew wrote..."Once upon a time there was a bear, he was old and he caught a fish."
I was super impressed that these could do this without any help from the teachers..you are AMAZING!!!

Her is another"AMAZING" critter from our class.  In the last week of Term 2 he broke his shoulder after a fall off the monkey bars...it hasn't slowed him down!  Great job Caden , you are an inspiration in our class.

Have you had a chance to check out our portraits? They are gorgeous.  They wrote some clues to help you guess who is who.  Have a look and a read and see if you can guess "Who am I?"

Check out these thinking faces!  We are doing a lot of thinking in Room 18 and a lot of wondering.  The children wrote some hilarious stories in response to the question..."What happens to my poo, when I flush the loo?" You should ask them what they think happens.

Lastly, Student Led Conferences are on Tuesday.  If you read the newsletter you will know how to access the website to make an appointment.  It would be great to see all of you, especially as we will be setting goals for Term 3 and celebrating any success from our Term 2 goals.  If you have any problems making an appointment please let me know and I will arrange a time for you.
The home/school partnership is critical for the success of our critters.

Portfolios and RE books will go home on Friday, have a read through...fill out your bits and bring them back for Tuesday.   We will be using them to help us set our goals.
Thanks heaps, its been an exhausting first week back.

Check out our Writing Wizards

The Writing Wizards were hard at work today.  they were writing about some of the interesting things they got up to during the holidays.
The Wizards have been learning to write their ideas independently, they use their words and their phonics to help them with their spelling.  Well done

Welcome back everyone...

Week 1 - Term 3

I can't believe the holidays are over already.  Roman is going to be DEVASTATED!  I can't wait to see all of you tomorrow and to hear about your holidays:)  I did see Marlo down at the golf range yesterday...he can hit a ball!

Here's what's happening this week:

Tuesday -
GO FOR IT. The whole school is participating in this programme this term. Our sessions are on a Tuesday afternoon and all children will need to bring their PE gear. The Go For It programme has a range of activities designed to help children develop basic motor, balance and hand/eye coordination skills. It's lots of fun and children in previous years have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Sadly it does mean that PMP will not be continuing as the Go For It programme is done in the hall most days each week this term.

Holiday Reading Logs - I hope you have been filling these out during the holidays. You can start bringing them back to class this week. The class that has the most logs returned wins a pizza lunch from Hell Pizza!! There are lots of prizes up for grabs.

Singing Practice - Wednesday 8:45 sharp! Please make sure you are at school early so you have time to put your bag and book bag away. We will be leaving class just after 8:40 so we can be seated and ready to start at 8:45 sharp.

Portfolios - These will go home this Friday. Please go through them with your child and complete the 2 stars and a wish page. They need to be brought back next week to the Student Led Conferences (booking details to come in the newsletter - at this stage they are on Tuesday).

RE Books - These will also go home on Friday. Please complete the parent/whanau page and the I am unique page. They need to come back next week with the portfolios please.
See you in the morning:)

This looks awesome:)

Matariki School Disco

The PTA are running a school disco this Thursday night, it's 5.30-7pm - with Matariki theme.

I will be there...ripping up the dance floor-if anyone would like to join me, that would be great.

Come dressed in stars or glo sticks.  These disco's are always fun!
I will advise on the entry price during the week.  It is usually a gold coin:)
Yay for the last week!!

Week 10

I CANNOT believe we are down to the last week of the term already.

This is what you need to know...

This week we will be working on our Portfolios.
Every Junior student has a Portfolio, which is clear file folder that contains a selection of completed, un-assisted samples of work.
Your child's portfolio will come home next term for you to look at.
If you have not returned your Portfolio from last term, please do so.

The children will receive their first written school report after 20 weeks at school, which will be in Week 1 of Term 3 for a lot of the children in our class.
We will have Student Led Conferences in Week 2 of Term 3 where we will review our progress on the goals we made in Term 2 and set some new goals for Term 3.

This week your child will receive a Holiday Reading Log for you to write down what they have read, and what you have read to them during the holidays.
All of the children at St Mary's are expected to complete a holiday reading log. These are to be returned in the first week of term 3.

All of the children who return their reading log go into the draw to win a prize, which includes a UE Boom and walkie talkies!
