A note from Mr. Macmillan

From Mr.M...
Next weekend we are have a working bee at our school. We have a number of jobs on our list ranging from handy-man jobs, spreading cushionfall under the senior playground, maintenance on the senior playground, replacing rotten palings on our boundary fences, repairing the tops of our garden plots, putting up the shade cloth and I am sure there will be plenty more jobs to do. Come along and meet other parents, enjoy a morning tea and a delicious lunch. Children are welcome also. For catering purposes please let the office know if you can assist, even if it is for an hour or two.

Also, you may have noticed that there is a play house in front of our classroom (thank you Mr. McM) that is looking pretty plain. During the working bee at our school, I will be painting (pimping up) our play house. If any of the Critters would like to come along and help me, I would be most grateful:) I have visions of a gingerbread house on the outside and an interior of stars on the ceiling and wood panelling on the walls with picture portraits (yes, I know its ambitious...I need some help), please come along and help me:)

Speaking of the playhouse, we had a great maths learning challenge last week...
Will the kitchen that we have in class fit inside the play house??
I wasn't going to move it unless I was sure that it would fit. A jelly bean was on offer for anyone who could prove that my efforts would be worthwhile. Congrats to Andrew, Lucas and Henry who persevered with the problem and proved to me that it would fit...here is their video...

Here, Henry, Andrew and Lucas clearly demonstrate that they are able to use a "non-standard" unit of measurement to solve the problem that was presented.  This shows that these three boys are operating at Level 1 (end of Year 2)of the curriculum, here is the link to nzmaths that proves their reasoning https://nzmaths.co.nz/resource/teddy-bears-and-friends , so well done boys.  I was very impressed with your ability to solve this problem.
A jellybean well deserved.
